Marianna Riley Jarrett - Owner & Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Marianna Riley Jarrett started Spotlight Dance Company in 2013. She attended UNCC and majored in Dance Education.Marianna danced all her life starting at age 2 due to her Mother who owned Donna’s School of Dance in Statesville and Donna’s Dancers Studio,in Salisbury. She also studied ballet, jazz, and tap dancing at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City on long weekends, since she was 10 years old. Marianna studied tap dancing with the Rockettes of New York City at Radio City Music Hall when a Freshman in High School. During her dancing career, she has lead her students to winning numerous awards such as: Regional and National Showstopper Champion in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Baton since 2013. She was the lead in the Sleeping Beauty Ballet, Peter Pan Ballet & the Beauty & the Beast Ballet. Since opening Spotlight Dance Company, Marianna has taken interest in her students and been invited to perform for many functions in the Southeast such as Royal Caribbean Ecstasy of the SeaCruise Ship in 2014, Disney World in 2016, Globetrotters  halftime entertainment at Catawba College and UNCC in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and was invited to be the Studio Host for the amazing Moscow Ballet in the Nutcracker each December in Durham. She has taken her dancers to New York City where they danced on Times Square with Corbin Bleu and on the famous stage of St James Theater. She has choreographed 1st Overall Winning Competition dances and many award winning routines. She absolutely loves teaching and is excited to continue to grow with Spotlight.


Miss Katie - Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Miss Katie began her dance training on Cape Cod at the age of 4, training in Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Lyrical till the age of 18. During her training she was in many dance competitions and held leading rolls.  She went on to further her education in dance at Dean College in Franklin Massachusetts where she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, Modern and hip hop. In addition she studied Pedagogy, Dance History, Dance composition, and Kinesiology, to further her knowledge in the art of teaching dance. Miss Katie graduated as a double major from Dean College in 2010 with a Bachelors in Dance and an Associates in Health sciences. 


While still in school she started an after school enrichment program at a local elementary school where she taught kindergarteners through 5th graders Jazz and Hip Hop. 


Since graduation Miss Katie continues her training in various styles of dance. She has been teaching for the past ten years choreographing award winning solos, as well as small group, large group and production numbers.  


She is excited to begin her new journey in North Carolina and here at Spotlight Dance Company. She looks forward to continuing to pass on her knowledge and love for dance. 

Miss Jessica- Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Miss. Jessica- Jessica is a New York City-based dancer, actor, singer, choreographer, danceinstructor, and Yoga teacher who grew up in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. She holds a degree in Child Development and a degree in Pediatric Health from William Peace University and a certification in Art Therapy form the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She was enrolled in dance as a young child and quicky developed into a promising student and by fifth grade was awarded a full scholarship to Raleigh School of Ballet’s professional division. At the age of nine she was cast in her first film, The Portrait with Hollywood legends Gregory Peck and LaurenBacall, directed by Tony Award winning and three-time Academy Award nominee, Arthur Penn. Soon after she attended a handful of screen tests and was signed with Kids Unlimited Talent Agency, and later on Elite Modeling Agency and MSA talent group in NYC. Growing up she spent almost every summer training at North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. In addition, her dance training has included LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts in New York City, Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, Dance New Amsterdam, and scholarship recipient to The Alvin Ailey School, Jacobs Pillow, and the American Dance Festival at Duke University four years in a row. She also trained alongside of and performed with Broadway stars such as Terrance Mann from the original cast of CATS, Les Misérables onBroadway, and one of the stars in the film A Chorus Line, Lauren Kennedy Broadway performer, NYC Opera, and founder of Theatre Raleigh, Lana Gordon currently starring in Chicago on Broadway, John Arthur Green from School of Rock and Matilda, Broadway Collective founder and Artistic Director Robert Hartwell who appeared in Broadway shows Memphis, Motown, Hello Dolly with Bette Midler, and Golden Globe winner Evan Rachel Wood. She has worked for and collaborated with famed choreographer Grady Bowman, Ashley Lindsey from the Limon Company, founder of the Ashley Lindsey Dance Co. and Artistic Director of NCSA Summer Dance program, Brice Mussett from the Martha Gram Company 2, Jason Winters from So You Think You Can Dance and Mia Michaels company RAW, Emily Nicholson from Hubbard Street 2, Natasha Davidson from the cast of television show and film Fame and producer of Tony Award winning Prom the musical on Broadway. Miss Jessica also apprenticed under and later on assisted child film star and Broadway performer Kirstie Tice with projects that spanned from teaching, choreographing, and directing and re-setting original Jerome Robbins choreography. Tice was a Chancellor Award winner at NCSA and student of Agnes d’ Mille from American Ballet Theatre and Tony Award winner for best choreography.
At seventeen Tony Award winning performer and film star Ben Vereen encouraged her to audition for 42nd Street on Broadway and she was cast, but decided to attend college. While in college she performed and toured with various ballet and contemporary companies, was a principal dancer and assistant choreographer for Tony Award winner and recipient of the Carolina Fine Arts Award Ira David Wood III’s A Christmas Carol, performed in The Tempest
for Theatre in the Park, was a regular cast member with North Carolina Theatre, toured with the North Carolina Dance Festival three years in a row, and taught at studios and schools in NC and NY as a staff member and guest teacher. She has played a major role in the opening and
development of two successful dance studios, North Carolina Dance Institute and Infinity Ballet Conservatory and Theatre. After college she was awarded a scholarship to train with the National Dance Institute in NYC under direction of her mentor and New York City Ballet principal dancer and film star Jaques d’ Amboise. Later in her career Jaques d’ Amboise invited her to help fundraise, perform for, and establish Arts In Action under direction of NDI, an inner-city school dance and theatre program that is still active in many counites across the state of North Carolina.
Soon after re-locating to Manhattan after graduating from college she landed a role playing, Gaziella in the 50th Anniversary International tour of West Side Story, casted by Bernard Telsey and Dave Clemmons, performing the original choreography of Jerome Robbins, under direction
of Joey Mckneely, and music direction of Donald Chan. During the tour the legendary two-time Tony Award winner and successful Director and Playwriter Arthur Laurents attended the first two weeks of rehearsal in Vienna, Austria. The show toured for two years and was a featured
performance in Paris, France at the historic Theatre de’ Chatelet.
Other professional achievements include performing in Broadway Rocks The Park with Yolanda Adams and cast of Chicago on Broadway, The Kennedy Center Awards, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Danspace Project at Saint Mark’s Church, she was cast in major motion
films such as Sex in the City 2, New Year’s Eve, Leatherheads, television shows Board to Death, Ugly Betty, Boardwalk Empire and various independent films including The Believers. Jessica has also appeared in the North Carolina Education Lottery Commercial, national ads for
Capezio, photographed in magazines such as Yoga Journal and Southern Bride, music videos, walked in fashion shows for Betsy Johnson and Paris Hilton, performed in the opening number for a Fashion Show at the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami as a backup dancer for Usher, and featured halftime performer at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Most recently she performed in Broadway’s Rock the Vote for the 2020 Presidential election.
Her choreography has been presented in a 9/11 tribute at the Kennedy Center in NYC with the National Dance Institute, the opening numbers in the Miss Raleigh and Miss North Carolina Pageants, Pieces of Gold, Art In Motion Dance Company, Moving to Mozart for AIA, NC Art
Museum First in Flight, NC Educators Ball, North Carolina Kids Dance Festival, Meredith College, and Peace College Dance and Theatre Company. Miss Jessica has also been an audition coach and trained collegiate cheerleaders, actors for the stage and for the camera, competitive
gymnasts, professional figure skaters, and has been a movement coach for well-known fashion models.
Before the Pandemic she was cast in a film project in Los Angeles. Currently, she is continuing her graduate work remotely, working as an independent performer, teaching Dance and Yoga and helping with the care of her Grandmother in North Carolina. Miss. Jessica is very excited to join the Spotlight Dance Company community! She declares herself to be shaped by the wisdom,
vision, aesthetic values of beloved teachers along the way of her dance career. Her teaching style demonstrates her passion and love for dance and encourages students to develop their individual creativity.

Miss Erica- Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Erica Leigh Averill attended Savannah College of Art and Design to pursue a degree in the arts and studied under the ABT curriculum at Gaston Dance Theatre, coaching dance teams, and performing with Open Door Studios and multiple companies.
Known for her breadth of artisanal expression, Erica is classically trained in dance, photography, drawing, painting, and acting. After college, Erica returned to her native North Carolina to continue her dancing, choreographing, and acting career. Her recent works include lead performances in the short films, “When I Grow Up,” “For Love,” and “Little Angel.” Most recently, she choreographed and performed her original dance entitled, “Reasons Not to Die” at the Loose Leaves Showcase in Charlotte, NC.
Drawing from inspiration around her and her own life experiences, Erica continues to dance and choreograph in Charlotte and surrounding areas by blending her multiple disciplines of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary dance into emotional storytelling through movement. Her future work includes two showcases in 2020 while illustrating and completing an anthology of her writings.

Miss Rebecca - Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Rebecca began dancing at 3 years old attending Salisbury School of Ballet in Salisbury, NC. She was trained in the Cecchetti method of ballet and pointe, Grades I-IV, by Louise Robitaille. Rebecca continued to receive training in jazz, tap, lyrical, and modern during her years at SSB. Through Salisbury High School’s dance program, Rebecca studied many different choreographers as well as Pilates and Yoga methods. While at East Carolina University, Rebecca continued her studies in ballet, jazz, modern, dance history, kinesiology, and health and human performance. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, concentration in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2013. Currently, Rebecca works for Rowan-Salisbury Schools and she enjoys dancing in the adult ballet and tap classes at Spotlight Dance Company.

Mrs. Kristin - Instructor at Spotlight Dance Company

Kristin began dancing at the age of 9 at Palm Valley Gymnastics & Dance in Harlingen, Texas. She progressed in many dance styles including jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, pointe, and ballet. She performed in many recitals and received leading roles in The Sleeping Beauty Ballet and The Peter Pan Ballet. During her time there she also competed in numerous conventions and competitions from L.A. to Houston where she won Best Technique Overall and 1st in her division.
 
She attended Brigham Young University to pursue her passion for dance and achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance with an emphasis in
Contemporary. Kristin has traveled to China with the Dance Department for a 7-week study abroad performing contemporary works, along with tap, and taking classes at renowned schools such as the Beijing Dance Academy. While at BYU, she received an award for Outstanding Leadership in the Dance Department and assisted with various classes. Kristin also danced with and was an officer for DancEnsemble, a contemporary company at BYU. In addition, she continued to tap by participating in the tap company, Foot Poetry. She is excited for this next chapter teaching at Spotlight!
